N. Michigan Tart Cherry Preserves
My husband grew up on the Leelanau Peninsula of Michigan in the little town of Leland. On this narrow peninsula that juts out into Lake Michigan, 25% of all the tart cherries in the US are grown and they are delicious! Every summer when we go up to visit we bring back red currants, apricots and black raspberries but it's the tart cherries that everyone waits for. We have one customer that orders 20 pints every year! These preserves are delicious, whole tart cherries in syrup, sweetened just enough, with a hint of vanilla, perfect on ice cream, in a tart, on a cheese plate or straight out of the jar. Get them while you can, they won't last long!
